Craft beer book author to hold signing in Waltham today
Author Jonathan Cook’s new book, “Beer Terrain: Field to Glass from the Berkshires to the Maine Coast,” depicts the cutting edge of the booming craft beer industry – locally sourced malt and hops. Following the grain from the farm to Valley Malt to the brewers, this story then branches into hop growing and other local resources that are sustainably utilized by the region's breweries.
Dozens of brewers and farmers are featured in these pages for their cultivation of heirloom grains, organic hops and sustainable supply chains, including renewable energy, according to the author. Waltham's own Watch City Brewing Co. uses locally grown ingredients in many of their beers. A book signing will be held in the Watch City dining room, 256 Moody St., on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
Cook has been farming and writing professionally for 15 years for both beer and general publications. He worked as the assistant brewer at the Portsmouth Brewery in 1998 and has been home brewing ever since. He has lived in Maine and now Massachusetts. This is his first book.
