The Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce will host a beer and wine festival this weekend.
The Kegs & Corks Beer and Wine Festival, which will feature beer, wine, and souvenirs from 20 different local breweries and wineries, will run from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Forest Professional Park.
“I love to explore Virginia to find these great breweries,” says Susan Brown, festival organizer. “Having all of [them] in one place is really nice.”
This is only the second iteration of the festival; prior to that, the idea had been kicked around for a while but only came to crushed and fermented fruition with the surge of craft beers and homemade wines in the area.
Brown says the goal is to include both newer venues like Sunken City Brewery at Smith Mountain Lake and old favorites like Devils Backbone Brewing Company in Roseland and Sans Soucy Vineyards in Brookneal.
Admission is paid depending on how adventurous a palate you have, topping out at 20 tastings of various brews and wines. A taste consists of a 4 ounce sample of beer or ˝ ounce of wine (tickets are $25 for 10 tastings and $35 for 20; general admission is $10).
No other beer will be available for purchase, but wine will be sold by the bottle.
In addition to the spirits, there also will be food vendors and live music, featuring performances by bands The Dundies and The Heat of the Night.
This is the last festival put on by the Chamber this summer, and Brown hopes to draw a large and diverse audience.
“We are trying to appeal to a kind of vast crowd,” says Brown. “From the young 21 crowd, who want to explore their tastes, to the older crowd who just want to relax and have a beer.”
