Stone Brewing will release its first Richmond-brewed beer on Friday
Stone Brewing Co. will release its first Richmond-brewed beer on Friday.
The first Richmond-brewed beers will be tapped at a public event beginning at 5 p.m. at the Southern Railway Taphouse at 111 Virginia St.
Stone IPA, as well as the beer’s “Virginia Brewery Prototype,” will be kegged from the 220,000-square-foot plant in the Fulton neighborhood east of downtown Richmond.
This prototype beer is the brewery’s test batch of Stone IPA, one of the company’s popular year-round beers.
Beer lovers will be able to try both beers in a side-by-side tasting to “allow fans to experience the subtle character nuances between the two beers as the Stone brewing team did during the flavor-matching process,” the company said.
Employees of Stone Brewing will begin kegging the first Richmond-brewed beers and loading them into vans for distribution Friday morning.
Beginning next week, Stone Brewing’s 24 accounts throughout the Richmond area also will offer Richmond-brewed Stone IPA alongside Stone IPA – Virginia Brewery Prototype.
The company’s retail store and tasting room portion of Stone Brewing’s East Coast distribution center and brewery opened in late February.
California-based Stone Brewing announced in October 2014 that it had selected Richmond for its East Coast brewery and distribution center. Construction began last summer.
Stone Brewing’s store at 4300 Williamsburg Ave. has growlers, tasting pours, glasses and six-packs available.
