INSIDE SCOOP: Have a beer

Back in March, state Rep. Jon Hardister co-sponsored a bill designed to ease production restrictions on the state's craft-beer industry.

"House Bill 500 raises the self-distribution cap on beer production from 25,000 to 200,000 barrels," we reported then. "The current law requires brewers to use a distributor once they produce 25,000 barrels of beer a year. The bill comes just days before the start of N.C. Beer Month, a celebration of the craft-brewing industry that is held in April."

The bill died in April during Craft Beer Month, no less but not before sparking a dream in this reporter: I would get co-sponsors of this bill to drink craft beer together, and I would get them to take a photo while doing it.

I identified as my targets Hardister (he knows me so I figured my odds were better) and Rep. Chuck McGrady, a Henderson County Republican who follows me on Twitter. And I basically just wore Hardister down over many weeks of begging.
