The Stalking Horse Is West LA's New Craft Beer British Pub Hangout

Tony Yanow’s newest project will brew English-style beers on site

Los Angeles earns a new British-style pub hangout today, with the announcement that The Stalking Horse is ready to ride along Pico Boulevard next week. The newcomer marks one of the first of many projects to come for the Artisanal Brewers Collective, a group of well-heeled business and craft beer types (including Tony Yanow, former Golden Road Brewing co-founder) that have been on a purchasing spree across Los Angeles of late.

The Stalking Horse takes over where the former Steingarten LA left off, carving away the German beer hall vibes of a decade ago for a dark, classic British pub feel. Not unlike Hollywood’s newish Electric Owl, this space presents big brassy fixtures, loads of glass, and throwback stools lining the wraparound bar. The ceiling is black, the walls are a wide green tartan, and a long back dining room provides booths and four-tops all the way to the end. A fully open-air patio at the far end holds communal tables and plenty of hanging plants. Kris Keith of Spacecraft designed the restaurant.

Perhaps most interesting is the glass-wrapped brewing system right up in the front of the room. Yanow and new head brewer Brandon Edwards (Pizza Port, Columbus Brewing) have put together a seven-barrel system for making their own brews on site, including plenty of English-style beers to fit the aesthetic. There will also be multiple rotating local and guest taps to choose from, as well as a full bar lineup — with scotch and Irish whiskey, of course.
