Epic Brewing, which operates out of production facilities in both Denver and Salt Lake City, has become the latest Colorado craft brewer to buy another beer maker.

Brewery officials announced today that they have purchased Telegraph Brewing Co., which opened in 2006 as the first craft brewery in Santa Barbara, California. Though a sale price was not announced, Epic officials said they use increase production capacity at Telegraph and broaden the brewery’s distribution reach.

The acquisition is the first for Epic, which opened in Salt Lake in 2009 and then opened its plant in Denver in 2013 to make all of the beer the company distributes to the eastern United States.

It joins other Colorado craft brewers like New Belgium Brewing of Fort Collins and Oskar Blues Brewery of Longmont now in operating breweries in other states.

“We have actually been looking for great breweries to purchase for the past 18 months and bringing Telegraph Brewing into the Epic family is exciting,” said Dave Cole, Epic co-founder. “It provides us an avenue to combine our teams and build on Telegraph’s portfolio with our innovative vision.”
