went to the beer store last night to get a six of this and ended up coming out with 3 other 6's but no celebration, back to the store I go.
I'm not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information.

sorry I couldn't make it. I went out for "one beer" with some of the higher ups at my new job, and a full bottle of beer kept appearing next to my glass. I didn't want to be rude or anything

[18:16] <Teej> Due to the weather, I didn't lay my hands on any SNCA.
[18:17] <Teej> So I've got myself a Sprecher black bavarian to chew on.
[18:17] <Teej> Drinkin' your AG yet?
[18:20] <HogieWan> nope - was going to bottle tongiht but, it'll wait until tomorrow
    [18:21] <HogieWan> instead of the 1-2-3 schedule, I like to do 1-(3-4)-(1-2)
[18:22] <HogieWan> I think my next brew will be a schartzbier
[18:25] <Teej> With my oatmeal stout, it was more like a 1-1-5. 1 week primary, 1 week secondary, and 5 weeks to drink it. Kegging pwns.
[18:27] <HogieWan> meaning it was gone in 7 weeks? or did it take 5 weeks before you could drink it?
    [18:27] <Teej> Gone in 7.
[18:28] <Teej> Tasted similar to a schwarzbier. Different hop profile but other than that...
    [18:28] <HogieWan> whee is everyone?
    [18:28] <HogieWan> where
    [18:29] <Teej> dunno
[18:29] <Teej> Hey, you familiar with the "all your base are belong to us" crap?
    [18:29] <HogieWan> unfortunately, yes
    [18:30] <HogieWan> I'm a sys admin - does that answer yourq uestion?
[18:30] <Teej> http://home.wi.rr.com/nota/ssuutb.com They threw an all your base gag into my game...so I...set 'em up the bomb.
    [18:30] <Teej> oops

[18:32] <HogieWan> we'll let it slide this time
[18:32] <Teej> Bah. Speak your mind. About the only sins are TYPING IN ALL CAPS or putting 2 words on a line to type out 3 sentences worth of crap.

    [18:38] <studentofbeer> so i had to reboot
    [18:38] <studentofbeer> darn
    [18:38] <threecb> hello all
[18:38] <HogieWan> well - I'm about ready to pour mine
[18:39] <HogieWan> what the proper glssware for this one?
[18:39] <studentofbeer> sadly mine is still way too cold since i just pulled it out of the fridge
[18:39] <studentofbeer> hrmm, im putting mine in my new new belgium "globe" glass
[18:39] <threecb> I was wondering the same thing about glassware.
[18:39] <{Tweek}> hi everyone. sorry Im late
[18:39] <HogieWan> I was going to use my st bernardus goblet
[18:40] <HogieWan> I normally pour mine to the glass from the fridge, but then sup the glss with my hnds until it feels "right"
    [18:40] * HERMS has joined #beer
    [18:40] <Teej> herms, chazworke?
[18:40] <HERMS> chazworke is halfway through a sixpack of bud light.
[18:40] <studentofbeer> yeah i guess ill do that, i just like having it a bit warmer so when i pour i can immediately get all the aroma
[18:40] <studentofbeer> i feel like if its too cold im gonna miss out a bit
[18:41] <Osh> 12you'll still get the hop hit
[18:41] <HogieWan> you could grab the bottle and warm it before also, but you hve to warm the bottle as well as the beer that way
[18:41] <{Tweek}> put it in the microwave
    [18:41] <HogieWan>
[18:41] <studentofbeer> yay metal caps in the microwave
[18:42] <{Tweek}> remove the cap first
    [18:42] <HogieWan> pretty lights!!!
[18:42] <{Tweek}> come on use your head
    [18:42] <studentofbeer> heh
[18:42] <threecb> I was going to use a pint, but have upgraded to a goblet. Pouring?
    [18:42] <HogieWan> I say let's pour
    [18:42] <studentofbeer> sure why not
    [18:42] <{Tweek}> o, was I supposed to wait
[18:42] <{Tweek}> heh, sorry im new
    [18:42] <Osh> 12poured mine in a pint,about a inch of head
    [18:42] <threecb>
[18:43] <HogieWan> got about 1/2 to 3/4 in my goblet
    [18:43] <toofargone> didn't wait either!
    [18:43] <HogieWan> nice copper/orange color
    [18:43] <Osh> 12faling back down to a 1/4
    [18:43] <studentofbeer> yep, very clear

[18:43] <threecb> got a nice head that rose to the lip of the goblet and settled back to a cap.
[18:43] <studentofbeer> for an unfiltered, BC brew
    [18:44] <Osh> 12hard to believe it's unfiltered
[18:44] <studentofbeer> at least thats my guess
[18:44] <studentofbeer> i dunno, filtered some im sure
[18:44] <threecb> bubbles of carbonation clinging to the glass. very clear, deep copper, near garnet in my glass
[18:44] <HogieWan> clarity is great - I always look t my finger on the other side of the glass
[18:45] <threecb> I can hold it up to the screen and read the type through it!
[18:45] <{Tweek}> hrm I cant see my finger through the red plastic
    [18:45] <toofargone> so much for *glass*ware tweek
[18:45] <Teej> Did you at least rinse the coffee out first, tweek?
    [18:45] <{Tweek}> heh just joking
    [18:45] <threecb> lol, tweek
    [18:45] <Osh> 12PLASTIC call the cops
[18:46] <threecb> I was supposed to clean the glass?
    [18:46] * {Tweek} calls the beer police
[18:46] <{Tweek}> so since Im new, is there a format? or kinda a free for all thing?
[18:46] <studentofbeer> so how does one get a reddish color in the brew--im curious for all our homebrewers about guesses on malt and stuff
[18:47] <studentofbeer> i dunno sorta free for all i think
[18:47] <HogieWan> nice citrus, slightly piney aroma
[18:47] <studentofbeer> we talked about color, talk about smell, taste stuff like that
[18:47] <{Tweek}> diferent grains will give you diferent color
    [18:47] <Osh> 12colors all in the malt
[18:48] <toofargone> is this anyones first SNCA?
    [18:48] <threecb> of the season?
[18:48] <{Tweek}> of the night, ya
[18:48] <HogieWan> a little roasted barley wil give you red color as wel as toasted malts
    [18:48] <studentofbeer> haha
    [18:48] <Osh> 12only for the last 10 minutes
    [18:48] <HogieWan> I had one on monday
[18:48] <studentofbeer> im getting more pine/cedar in my aroma
    [18:48] <{Tweek}> interesting
    [18:49] <studentofbeer> its too cold!
[18:49] <HogieWan> I was going to split one with the wife, but she didn't dig it - more for me
    [18:49] <toofargone> mine too studentofbeeer
    [18:49] <{Tweek}> i get a candied fruit
    [18:49] <HogieWan> cedar - that's what I was looking for
[18:49] <studentofbeer> i do get some of that sweetness
[18:49] <threecb> I kind of get the citrus with melon and green grapes, like a reisling wine.(?)
The more you disapprove the more fun it is for me.

[18:49] <studentofbeer> hrmm yeah i can see the riesling idea a bit
    [18:49] <Osh> 12cedar and grapefruit
[18:49] <HogieWan> A little fruity sweetness and a touch of spiciness
    [18:49] <{Tweek}> I definately get teh citrus
[18:49] <toofargone> yeah I think cedar is a good call
[18:50] <{Tweek}> im not getting that at all
    [18:50] <threecb> I can't pick up on the pine/cedar
    [18:50] <toofargone> in the nose
[18:50] <HogieWan> first sip - all I can taste is cedar/ood now that I'm thining of it
    [18:50] <{Tweek}> wierd
[18:51] <threecb> yeah, i haven't tasted, about to now. I was trying to give it a little time to come up a few degrees.
[18:51] <studentofbeer> flavor i get much more citrus, but also the cedar
[18:51] <{Tweek}> I love hearing people impressions of things. it is so interesting
[18:51] <studentofbeer> im getting more of the candy fruit aroma now
[18:51] <studentofbeer> maybe a bit of vanilla? i dunno. i think i just love vanilla so i find it places
    [18:51] <HogieWan> warming a bit now?
[18:52] <toofargone> is everybody pouring from a bottle? I got a growler last night.
    [18:52] <studentofbeer> oh nice
    [18:52] <{Tweek}> bottle here
[18:52] <studentofbeer> that might change it up a bit--im doing bottle
[18:52] <threecb> nice! twelve oz for me.
[18:52] <HogieWan> I on't get any decent beer on tap around here - so yes bottle
[18:52] <Osh> 12the first case I had was overwhellming greatfuit, this oneout of a new case isn't so overpowering
[18:52] <{Tweek}> wanted to get a pin of it this year but couldnt find it
[18:53] <threecb> i got one of the last 2 sixers in the best store around here a couple of hours ago.
[18:53] <{Tweek}> I dont know if you guys have ever had a melon called sherilyn melon
    [18:53] <studentofbeer> nope
[18:53] <{Tweek}> its some sort of persian cross. texture like velvet
[18:53] <HogieWan> I like the mouthfeel - the smei soft cabonation is perfect
[18:53] <studentofbeer> i dont like melon for some reason
[18:53] <studentofbeer> yeah, it does have a good mouthfeel
[18:53] <{Tweek}> this has a similar sensation on my palate
[18:53] <studentofbeer> just the right balance
    [18:53] <studentofbeer> huh, interesting
    [18:54] <threecb> interesting
[18:54] <studentofbeer> if people are interested, here in SN's writeup of the beer http://www.sierranevada.com/beers/celebrationale.html
[18:54] <{Tweek}> sweetness seems to melt in the taste buds while the bitter kinda perks around like pop rocks
[18:54] <studentofbeer> chinook bittering, cascade and centennial finishing, and dry hopped with all 3
The more you disapprove the more fun it is for me.

[18:54] <HogieWan> nicely balanced, but the bitterness hangs out for a lot longer than the mlt
[18:54] <studentofbeer> yeah but i love it because the bitterness isnt harsh at all
    [18:54] <studentofbeer> just really flavorful
    [18:54] <Osh> 12malt? theres malt in this??
    [18:55] <studentofbeer> hehehe
    [18:55] <{Tweek}> lol
    [18:55] <{Tweek}> needs more hops
    [18:55] <{Tweek}>
    [18:55] <toofargone> pop rocks!
    [18:55] <{Tweek}> remember those?
    [18:55] <toofargone> oh yeah
    [18:55] <{Tweek}> frickin cool
[18:55] <threecb> I like the texture/mouthfeel. Nice description of the taste, tweek.
[18:55] <HogieWan> I really dig a lot of hops in the flavor/aroma, and a big malty backbone
    [18:56] <Osh> 12nice cling in a half glass here
[18:56] <studentofbeer> yeah the malt is definitely there, but it isn't competing with the hops
[18:56] <studentofbeer> what is dextrin malt?
    [18:56] <HogieWan> crystal
    [18:56] <studentofbeer> ok, thanks
[18:56] <HogieWan> it has a lot of dextrin, or unfermentable sugar
[18:56] <threecb> I think the malt stands up behind those hops. I like how it can be assertively hoppy, but not "painfully" so.
[18:57] <toofargone> simply put it is a very nice, hoppy beer
[18:57] <HogieWan> the hops hit you upfront, let the malt take the stage as you swallow, and then steal the show again
[18:57] <studentofbeer> i dont think ive ever really tasted a beer featuring chinook, anyone know of one? i definitely have an idea of what cascade and centennial do
[18:57] <Osh> 12I've had maltier versions of this in years past
[18:58] <threecb> the dextrin is what keeps up that backbone of malt?
[18:58] <studentofbeer> but im wondering what the chinook in the dry hopping does
    [18:58] <HogieWan> nope - the mouthfeel
    [18:58] <toofargone> I think you're right osh
[18:58] <Osh> 12It's never the same year to year
[18:58] <threecb> As the hops linger, I'm getting more of the pineyness
[18:58] <studentofbeer> it does seem like that, tho i think SN say it is
    [18:59] <threecb> thanks, hogie
[18:59] <toofargone> but consistent, with nuanced differences, like their barleywine
    [18:59] <HogieWan> confession - I've never had a bigfoot
[18:59] <threecb> dare I say I like this better than bigfoot?
[18:59] <studentofbeer> yeah, this year the hops seem less "gritty" i remember past years really being able to feel the hops
    [18:59] <toofargone> oh my HogieWan
    [19:00] <Osh> 12Ahhhh Bigfoot, just like candy
The more you disapprove the more fun it is for me.

[19:00] <HogieWan> I dont get a lot of americn craft beer here
[19:00] <threecb> I've only had 2 bottles of BF myself.
    [19:00] * studentofbeer is shocked!
[19:00] <HogieWan> I get a lot of good imports, though
[19:00] <toofargone> lawd, I think I drank 4 in one night once, ouch
    [19:00] <{Tweek}> back
    [19:00] <Osh> 12So, where's here
    [19:00] <HogieWan> I'm starting to see more
    [19:00] <HogieWan> Lafayette, LA
[19:01] <studentofbeer> haha toofar, thats gotta hurt
[19:01] <HogieWan> I had a whole 750 of Unibroue's Trois Pistoles a couple weeks ago - snuck up on me reall quick
    [19:02] <Osh> 12thats another good one
[19:02] <threecb> The thing about this beer is that it's just so damn drinkable. It's easy to get halfway through a sixpack watching the game on a weekend afternoon.
[19:02] <studentofbeer> yeah but this beer is pretty big at 6.8%
[19:02] <toofargone> it is like that, but it is, as we say 'round here, a big girl beer--can't have too many
[19:02] <studentofbeer> its just so well done, theres no reason to not drink it.
[19:02] <threecb> exactly my point, student!
[19:03] <HogieWan> I find you don't pik up on the alcohol until after 8%
[19:03] <studentofbeer> yep yep, i agree with ya
[19:03] <studentofbeer> in the flavor you mean hogie?
    [19:03] <Osh> 12Hogie, you ever have a Uni " Terrible"?
    [19:03] <HogieWan> yeah
[19:03] <studentofbeer> agreed, it really doesnt show up in this beer
[19:03] <HogieWan> yeah - I need to revisit that one
[19:03] <{Tweek}> I get it a little in the finsih
[19:03] <{Tweek}> the alcohol that is
    [19:03] <{Tweek}> it warms
    [19:03] <threecb> it's a "Stealth Beer"!
[19:03] <studentofbeer> ok, yeah, it comes in with the hops
[19:04] <HogieWan> well, the hops hide any presence of the alcohol
[19:04] <studentofbeer> ive been hugging mine in my hands, definitely warmer
[19:04] <toofargone> mine's only starting to "warm", how 'bout yours student?
[19:04] <Teej> I DO hope you're talking about your beer, student.
    [19:04] <studentofbeer> getting better
    [19:04] <studentofbeer> hahaha
[19:04] <{Tweek}> I can usually "feel" the alcohol. it comes in degrees of warmth
[19:04] <toofargone> dope, too slow on the keyboard
[19:04] <{Tweek}> most alcohol is flavorless
[19:04] <studentofbeer> so what is that vodka/peppery sort of bite?
[19:05] <{Tweek}> by products of the distilling process
    [19:05] <HogieWan> that's the higher alcohol
[19:05] <studentofbeer> yeah but you sorta taste it in beer too
The more you disapprove the more fun it is for me.
